NCRS UK Chapter Flight 2007 at Le-Mans

Driving to Boulogne

On June 12th 2007 Jack Humphrey and Rob Musquetier were on our way to LeMans 2007. During the first stint to Boulogne, where we were going to join-up with our British colleagues, we noticed the Amp gauge vibrated a bit. We didn't trust its behaviour so we stopped to check the electrical wiring out. All seemed to be fine so we continued the trip and discovered the vibration was mysteriously gone at that moment in time (we suspected the charging signalling cable from the alternator)...

Arrived at first hotel

After a long but nice and sunny trip we arrived at our first place to spend the night: a very nice hotel at Forge des Eaux. All Vette's were nicely parked in the enclosed parking of the hotel facing a nice little park.

Excellent breakfast

The next morning we had a very good French breakfast to prepare us for another day of beautiful driving on the fabulous quite French D roads.

Monet Gardens

During the trip that day we decided to have a coffee/tea break at Monet Gardens positioned in a small village. It had indeed beautiful gardens!

Flight Judging

On Wednesday the UK chapter organised a Flight Judging event. During this event we judged Jack Cooper's 1992 Corvette to verify the, soon to be released, Technical Judging Manual 1992 - 1993 on completeness and if it is understandable for EU members. The original EU delivered car produced some nice findings on deviations for the European market which might find their way in the 1st edition of this new NCRS manual.

Head scratching

Sometimes some head scratching was needed to figure out where a specific part was located in or on the car...

Jack Cooper

Jack helps during judging by starting the car during operations check and hopes his car does well during the process. After all points were tabulated Jacks car would have received a First Flight if this judging would have been official (this couldn't be the case since the manual is not yet officially released).

Great roads

The French D roads are very nice to drive. Here a shot of the beautiful 63 convertible of Ruud Zeller!

Nice cars

Some very nice cars drove all the way from the borders of Europe to the LeMans circuit...

Finnish C2

This C2 was far from its Finnish home!

Corvette Racing

The next day we spend on the circuit grounds. There was enough time to visit the Corvette racing team.

Corvette's pit box

During the day before the race you can get really close at the pitboxes of all the teams. So also near both pit boxes of the factory Vette's.

Vintage Porsche racer

This magnificient vintage Porche racer in Gulf color scheme could be found on the circuit grounds!

Corvette vintage racer

In the morning of the first race day a one hour vintage race was organised. Tom Falconer, of the UK chapter entered a '59 race car. The car had unfortunately to abandon the race after two laps hitting a vintage Ferrari causing the transmission box to freeze in second gear.

Damaged nose

The damaged nose is clearly visible on 'our' race Vette!

Cars queued for track lap

We were allowed a lap on the circuit, a chance we grabbed with both hands!!!

C2 racer

Also a C2 racer was participating!

Corvette grand stand

From this Corvette grand stand (on a dubble decker bus) we had a excellent view on the circuit!

Track lap

Here a shot of the approach of the Grand Stand!

Happy driver

And look at this happy chapter chairman driving over the LeMans circuit!

A lot of fun

Patricia Jansen also enjoyed the circuit lap immensely!

Corvette #63

Corvette number 63 was able to finish race and was placed 2nd in the GT1 classe with only 6 minutes between this car and the winner of this class (#009 Astin Martin) and just as many laps.

Number 64 Corvette

Number 64 would abandon the race earlier in during the event due to a broken drive shaft. It tried to reach the pits on the start motor (which is mounted on the differential) but it wasn't able to finalise the lap due to lack of battery power (also the race committee didn't allow the use of an additional power supply).

Winner of the GT1 classe

Spijker car #86

And don't forget our own proud and joy: the Spijker team

Doug Vehan and Wil Cooksie

In the evening Doug Vehan (head of Corvette Racing Team) and the head of the Corvette factory Wil Cooksie visited the Corvette tent to provide us with inside stories over the race and Corvette's position in particular.

Back on our way home

After this perfect week we headed home on Monday. The trip was relaxed, sunny but further uneventful without any serious problems on one of our cars.

GT & Lambo

These very nice Ford GT and Lamborghini Murcielago were encountered on the way back...
